Trip to KL

I flew to KL yesterday to visit my mother and sisters. I went straight to the care centre from KLIA. The taxi driver wasn't familiar with the roads since he started driving the taxi only a month ago. So, the drive there took longer than usual because he went through a part of Puchong town that had quite heavy traffic.

At the care centre, my elder sister was there, but she left soon after I arrived. I just sat next to my mother the whole time. She looked fine, and had acquired the habit of holding on to a small doll, that reminded me of Mr Bean's. At one point, I decided to work on the powerpoint file for the officers retreat workshop. I fed dinner to my mother, and after that, as we sat, I decided to take a picture of her, and of her doll, with my phone camera.

My younger sister came to fetch me and we went to walk around the Curve. It was drizzling, and the place was crowded. We ended up eating noodles at Eden's. The food wasn't very nice.

Back at her apartment, I took a picture of the shop signboard that she refurbished and put on her wall. My father used to run a Chinese medicine shop for many years. I think my sisters and I were born in that shop, and we grew up there.

This morning, we went to visit my mother again, and after her lunch, I left for KLIA. I had Burger King's. That's when my problem started. I decided to connect to the wireless network there, and the Ad-watch popped up, warning me that something was trying to change my registry. I immediately shut it down. After that, when I turned on the laptop and tried to run any programme, the same warning would pop up. Looks like I have to trouble my office IT guys to check it. Very likely to be virus or spyware.

When I arrived in Singapore, I decided to drop by the Challenger shop in Tiong Bahru Plaza to pick up a mouse for my home desktop. Couldn't find one I liked, but instead bought Shindo DVD (the one with Matsuyama Kenichi that I bought in Tokyo last November). This DVD has Chinese subtitles, so I can at least understand what is going on.

Back to work tomorrow. Expecting a busy week ahead again.

Chak-Neng Shield, Finally

The Chak-Neng Shield is ok finally. When Dennis' uncle brought the faulty Shield back to the shop, they replaced the engraving with no questions asked. They're not so bad after all. It's probably the person, not the shop, that is the problem.

Chak Meng Shield!! So Angry!

Dennis and I are so angry. We went to this shop in Queenway Shopping Centre called Apha Plus Gifts and Souvenirs Pte Ltd (3rd storey) to make the inter-squad games competition shield. It's supposed to be Chak-Neng Shield. It came out as Chak Meng Shield. So angry!

When we went to the shop, there was this guy there, who didn't bother to hide the fact that he wasn't interested in our business. Dennis wrote on a piece of paper what we wanted engraved on the plaque, and passed it to him. That was last Saturday. When his uncle (who has a shoe shop there) went to collect the shield on Monday, the shop assistant (a different girl) told him they lost the piece of paper. And they didn't bother to call Dennis to let him know. So Dennis gave the wordings to her over the phone, and this is how it turned out.

Chak Meng!!! So angry!

Dennis will ask his uncle to bring the shield back to the shop to ask them to correct the mistake. Dennis will also call the shop to give them a piece of of his (and my) mind.

So, spread the word around about the level of service at this shop.

I think many BB companies patronise this shop, as they have the BB logo for engraving. So, anyone from other BB Coys reading this blog, please spread the word around too.

Cenydd Tan

Cenydd sent his BB week donation in cash ($100 for me, another $100 for Teck Chai) by mail. The money was put in between 2 BB week leaflets, but the envelope seal was not so good. It could have been opened and resealed back. Thank God for keeping the money safe.

Cenydd was with us in the BB from Sec 1 until his JC days in Jurong Junior College. He continued until he was appointed officer cadet. Together with Thomas Tan and Wei Yang, they were the clowns in the Company, and were never short of ideas for disturbing the Boys.

He included a short note with the BB week donation.

Let me reproduce the part that really encouraged me.

"I hope all is well with the Company, and I give thanks and praise that you guys are still in service and shaping our boys with the same values that was passed down to me. I hold dearly to my heart all that was taught to me and put trust and faith in the Lord, my God in whatever I do."

He signed off "Your boy forever".

What an encouragement.

Last Week And Yesterday

Haven’t blogged for about weeks, so I thought I’d better write something.

Let’s talk about the week that’s just gone by. It was hectic, with many last minute meetings. When I ended the week on Friday evening, I still had work uncleared. This coming week, I have a major presentation to do on Tuesday evening.

My blood pressure medicine was running out, and I was working out to see when I could go get them from the outpatient clinic. I went on Thursday late morning. Fortunately, it wasn’t a big crowd and I managed to get back to the office after taking my lunch.

Yesterday morning, I went for the Juniors parade. After that, Dennis and I trudged down to Queensway Shopping Centre to get the trophy for the inter-squad games competitions, starting with the bowling this coming Sunday afternoon after the enrolment. I decided to call it the Chak-Neng Shield since captain (Chak Mun) is sharing the cost.

Then we walked over to Anchorpoint, which is a nice place to walk around in after the renovation. We finally ate KFC after trying to decide between Jack’s Place and Subway. Joshua Tan suddenly showed up. I was actually thinking about him since he was doing some design work for an office around there. Dennis and I sat at KFC while he read his Narnia book and I cleared some office emails (the wireless@sg connection there was good).

We walked around in the basement before leaving for ITE Dover for the Adventure Quest closing ceremony. The basement shops had nice décor. We went into Poh Kim shop to look at DVDs, and Dennis kept extolling “American Gangster” (Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe) to me. I bought it finally, because it had 2 versions – the original theatrical release and an extended version.

Read about the Adventure Quest closing ceremony here.

After dinner with MDM and family, and captain, I finally reached home after a long day. I settled down to watch “American Gangster” at about 10.15 pm, thinking that I would be able to finish it by 12.15 am, since it’s about 150 minutes long. But I chose to watch the extended version. I checked at 12.10 am and realized that movie had another hour or so to go – the extended version is about 5 minutes short of 3 hours. I wouldn’t say that it’s a great movie, but interesting enough to keep me from falling asleep. Anyway, I decided to stop watching at that point and went to sleep.

Just came back from a run, and must get ready to go to church after breakfast.
