Philips AZ1880/12

Last Friday, there was a Courts brochure in my letterbox advertising electronic goods. There was this Philips CD radio player that comes with USB direct connection. The advertised price was $149.

Last Saturday, after lunch, I went to Courts in Jurong Point. I didn't find the player there, so I went over to Harvey Norman's. The player was there, selling at $149. But the sales staff were more interested in people looking for giant LCD TVs. I decided not to wait.

That evening, I went to Golden Mile Complex to look for Thai songs. From there, I crossed the road to eat dinner at the food centre. After that, I walked all the way to Mustafa's at Syed Alwi Road. The Philips player was selling there at $139. The sales staff tested it for me. The sound quality was quite good, and it was easy to use also. So I bought it, and lugged it home. It isn't a big set really.

Here's what it looks like.

The sound quality is not bad, very clear. But the bass is a little weak. It has a Dynamic Bass Boost feature. But when the feature is turned on, I couldn't really tell the difference.

The other grouse is that everytime it is switched on, the settings are all returned to default - CD player, with mid-level loudness. So I must remember to turn down the loudness level before I start playing anything. It isn't really that loud, but in my room, which is very quiet, I am afraid my neighbours might complain, especially if I turn it on in the night before I go to sleep.
