Small World

Before you read this blog, you must read the blog titled Surprise Email, and yesterday's blog about the passing on of our first Captain.

Mr Ho Chee Kong's body is lying in Kluang now. He will be buried at 11 am tomorrow.

When I reached home after the Maundy Thursday service tonight, I received an sms from Jimmy Ho, saying that Tiong Seng was at the wake, and sent his regards. What a small world.

Turned out that Mr Ho and Tiong Seng were in the same cell group in a Presbyterian Church in Kluang, where Tiong Seng is an elder. Mr Ho was also active in the Boys' Brigade in his last year.

So encouraging. I felt like things had come a full circle.

Passing On Of Our First Captain

Mr Ho Chee Kong, the first captain of the 28th Singapore Boys' Brigade Company, passed away yesterday in Johor Baru, Malaysia. He had not been well for some time, due to some lung disease.

Mr Ho was a very generous man, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need. I stayed with the family for about 2 years before they went away to the United States. I was very blessed by them.

Mr Ho was also a pioneer member of the Jurong Christian Church.

Let's pray that God will comfort and strengthen Mrs Ho, and their two sons, David and Jimmy, and their families during this time of bereavement. David and Jimmy were both members of our Company in the 1980s.

Meaningful Words.

There was a letter in the Straits Times Forum Page this morning, written by teacher Heng Kai Le. This closing sentence caught my eye:

... it is not about the time we take to reach our destination, but the triumph of reaching there in the end.

Surprise Email

I received this surprise email yesterday in the office.

Dear Yew Neng,
I am not sure this is the same Yew Neng I know from Malaysia. I am Tiong Seng. Many people call me Jordan this day. Well, if it is indeed you , I am very glad to be in touch again after that long time. I am in Kluang. Not that far from Singapore.
Regards.
Jordan Tang Tiong Seng

Tiong Seng and I were in Universiti Malaya together. We served together in the Varsity Christian Fellowship, and were involved in a hospital visitation ministry in the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital for about a year. When I first came to Singapore to work, I rented a room from his brother.

It will be good to meet up with him again. The last time I saw him was when he visited his brother back in 1980.

Sunday Night, Yesterday And Today

I had super duper busy days yesterday and today. Really shacked now.

On Sunday evening, Dennis and Darren came to pick me after dropping their parents off for the dialect service in church. We went to Queensway Shopping Centre where Dennis bought some socks. Then we met up with Joshua (Tan) and went to Orchard Cafe for buffet dinner. I had a voucher for free dinner for two, and used the ala carte card to get a 1-for-1 dinner. So I only paid for 1.

Joshua had a super apetite. He was still eating when the 3 of us had already finished our desserts.

Here are some pictures.

Mystery Solved?

The post that I didn't post appeared today as posted by Ivan.

So did Ivan post the post I didn't post.

There was no word from him in the blog that he did.

So is it still a mystery?

Something Strange

This post appeared on our BB Company blog yesterday.

Strange thing is - I didn't post it.

Then who did?

Dennis suggested that maybe I did post the blog, but forgot. I am not that senile....

I was very busy in the office yesterday. I remember looking at the laptop clock, and commented that it was already 11.45 am, and continued to do my things. I couldn't have posted that blog.

Who did?

New Table Lamp

Mdm Sek Hoong went to Hatyai the previous weekend on an office trip. She bought me a nice table lamp from there. It's of a zen design, and matches my TV console. It is something I wanted to get when I renovated apartment.

Thank you, Mdm.

L Change The World

Last night, a group of us went to watch L Change The World at Jurong Point - Dennis, Guan Long, Joshua C, Jeffrey, Ming Huan, Meng Soon, Yifeng, Junrong and me. Thanks to officer Teck Chai's SAFRA card, we paid $8 for the ticket that usually costs $9.50 on a weekend.

The movie was enjoyable. Like the advertisements said, it is a spin-off from the 2 Death Note movies. It is no Death Note part 3.

Matsuyama Kenichi was, as usual, superb as L. Not much of a storyline, but the story moved along quickly enough so that it was not boring.

After the credits at the end, there is a short scene lasting a few seconds. The advertisements said it must not be missed. So, I won't put any spoiler here. Go see for yourself, but don't expect too much. It's nothing much really. To me, it merely served to close the loop.

Oh, here's the ticket that got me into the cinema.

When You Believe (from Prince of Egypt)

Performed by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston

Many nights we've prayed
With no proof anyone could hear
In our hearts a hopeful song
We barely understood

Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains long
Before we knew we could

There can be miracles, when you believe
Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles you can achieve
When you believe, somehow you will
You will when you believe

In this time of fear
When prayers so often prove in vain
Hope seems like the summer birds
To swiftly flown away

Yet now I'm standing here
My heart's so full I can't explain
Seeking faith and speaking words
I never thought I'd say

There can be miracles, when you believe
Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles you can achieve
When you believe, somehow you will
You will when you believe

They don't always happen when you ask
And it's easy to give in to your fears
But when you're blinded by your pain
Can't see your way straight through the rain
Small but still, resilient voice
Says love is the relief

There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It's hard to kill
Who know what miracles, you can achieve
When you believe, somehow you will
somehow you will
You will when you believe

You will when you
You will when you believe
Just believe...in your heart
Just believe
You will when you believe
