LG FBD103

I finally bought my hi-fi system, although I originally thought of buying a home theatre system. I have been wanting to get a hi-fi system to listen to songs and the radio. The system I bought has a DVD player too, which can play DivX files with subtitles.

It’s an LG set – model FBD103. Mdm Sek Hoong, Yew Moi and I went to Courts last Sunday to look at the set. It was selling at $299. I read in a blog that it is available at Mustafa’s at only $240. So, last Tuesday after work, we went to Mustafa’s, and bought a set each.

Here are the pictures of the set in my place.

Sound wise, the quality is good. Although there’s no surround sound, the boom-boom-boom from the speakers is good enough. I have been watching DVDs on the tv without the sound effects, so the thrill wasn’t there. The system plays mp3 files too, and the sound quality is also good. But the system does not decode DTS files, so I still cannot enjoy DVD movies with DTS sound. All things considered, it is a good buy.

Today - After A Long Long While.

It’s been a while since I last blogged. I had dinner with Dekun tonight, but more about that later.

I had a stressful week. I was bombarded left, right and centre the last few days in the office. Thankfully, I survived, and started my weekend last night.

This morning, I took devotion for the Juniors parade, on the fall of the walls of Jericho from Joshua 6. The focus was on the habit of discipline, which is included in the BB Object. "The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline and self respect and all that tends toward a true Christian manliness". The Boys were well-behaved and quiet throughout the devotion. They were responsive, but not rowdy when I asked them questions. One of them, I think it was Edwin (I still cannot remember most of their names, except the few naughtier ones who are not afraid to get close to me) asked why God asked the Israelites to destroy everyone and everything in the city of Jericho.

After lunch, I settled the Company Annual Report with Dennis, then came back home. There was a much welcomed shower, which was quite heavy but didn’t last long, as usual. It’s been very dry, and the roadside kerbs are all brown and dry. When I left for Jurong Point, it was still drizzling very lightly.

Jurong Point was crowded, as usual. I went to Courts to look at micro DVD systems. I’m still looking to buy a system that can play DivX files, with a USB port and can play CDs and MP3s, with a radio of course. There’s a LG set that caught my eye. I will surf the internet later to get more information about it.

Dekun called me last week – I think on Tuesday afternoon – asking me to go out for dinner that night or the following night. In the end, we decided to meet today instead. I called Zhou Kitchen, which MADAM recommended, and made reservations for two. The guy on the phone said we can just walk in. Good thing I didn’t listen to him – the restaurant was crowded when we got there at about 6.30 pm. The décor is nice. I especially like the restaurant signage outside, and the green colour walls inside. Take a look.

There was sufficient variety in the buffet spread. The food was cook. The restaurant belongs to the Tung Lok group. But it was too crowded – good for the restaurant’s business, but it turned the atmosphere into something similar to a food court. It totally spoiled the ambience. Take a look at the food.

I enjoyed talking to Dekun. I’ve known him since he was in Sec 1 in Shuqun Secondary School. He joined the BB, but wasn’t very active. After he graduated, we kept in touch, and met regularly. He’s graduated from the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), and is now taking an ACCA course, after not being able to get a job for a few months. This is him.

He suggested watching Slumdog Millionaire after the dinner. When we got to the Cineplex, the movie was about to start and the tickets were selling fast. We figured that we wouldn’t be able to get good seats, and decided not to watch the movie. He’s got another whole day class tomorrow. He came straight from his whole day class today too.

We went to the new NTUC Fairprice 24-hour store. It’s really a hypermart – something like Giant in IMM. In fact, it looks like Giant in IMM. The layouts are very similar.

We left Jurong Point after that. It was good to see him again. I think we parted with an understanding that we will do it again when we can.
